Simplicity: Very few houses in North Park go nuts with the Christmas lights, which is great. I like simple displays, maybe just a couple of strings of lights that accentuate the roofline. I don't need to see a lot of blow-up, lit-from-within figures sitting on the front lawn.
With its Spanish styling and the power poles silhouetted in the background, the house in the big picture couldn't be anyplace but North Park.
Only in Southern California would you see a palm tree made of Christmas lights.

These folks lit their roofline and a couple of bushes, and that's it. Charming.

I haven't seen other houses lit up like this. It's eerie. I like it.

OK, I couldn't help including one house that went a bit over the top. The gigantic candy canes are a bit much but that train on the roof is pretty cool.
