Closing the book: Acres of Books is being forced out of business; some sort of downtown redevelopment plan, as I understand from talking to the guy who was running the place on Saturday.
What a pity. Acres of Books is one of the three best bookstores I've ever visited. (The other two are Strand in New York and the king of all bookstores, Powell's in Portland.) Long Beach is losing a real treasure.
