Where: The famous hot dog joint at La Brea and Melrose, Hollywood
When: May 23, 2008
Living up to the hype: The food at famous restaurants sometimes doesn't match the reputation of the place. But our lunch at Pink's was fantastic. (I had a good feeling when I saw that Pink's had two kinds of pastrami-Swiss cheese dogs.)
I had a 12-inch jalapeño chili dog that, while it looked a bit obscene sticking out both ends of the bun, was really spicy and delicious. Dani's Chicago Polish dog was just as good.
The biggest surprise was the chili fries. The fries - the potato part, often an afterthought - were great all by themselves. Add the chili and, well, let's just say it was well worth the 15-minute wait in line.
