Where: Petco Park, San Diego
When: Yesterday (April 5, 2008)
Not everybody did: There were a fair number of Dodgers fans at the game. The big screen on the scoreboard kept exhorting us to chant, "Beat LA." The regional rivalry is natural, but "Beat LA" seems more like an NBA thing to me. Hating the Lakers, after all, is just the right thing to do.
(I say this as a former Portlander who had *that* regional rivalry drummed into his head for years. I don't care about the Trail Blazers anymore, or the NBA at all, really, but for some reason I still can't abide the Lakers.)
Whatever, though, the Padres did. Beat LA, that is. They strung together six singles and a sacrifice fly in the first inning to go up 4-0. That's all it took, because Jake Peavy mowed 'em down.
He pitched a complete game, the Dodgers' only two hits came back to back to give them their single run, and that was that. Padres 4, Dodgers 1.
