Where: Salton Sea State Recreation Area, California
When: March 22, 2007
Notes: The Salton Sea, an inland salt-water lake, was created by accident a century ago. It's 227 feet below sea level, smells of the dead fish that litter its shore, and is weirdly beautiful.
Too big? There's a smaller version on Flickr.
